The new tv OS optimized apps that port your favorite i OS applications (and some new ones along the way) over to the Apple TV aren’t immune to the occasional glitch, crash, or ghost-in-the-machine funny business anymore than regular i OS applications are.
Last night, Apple took down the on-device update, and now devices on Apple TV 5.3 are seeing no update available.
Let’s say, for example, that the popular game Crossy Road is frozen (in fairness to the Crossy Road development team the tv OS-optimizes version has not caused us any problems despite sending thousands of chickens to their deaths since our Apple TV arrived).
In order to force quit the application and restart it we need to double tap on the Home button on the Apple TV Remote.
After Apple TV 6.0 was released on Friday with i Tunes Radio and other enhancements, there were many reports of botched updates that required the user to restore their Apple TV.
In some particular instances, Apple TVs have also been permanently bricked or they lost the content on the device during the update.
